The NRI of the year awards are the ultimate glory from India. The awards are conceptualised as a platform to recognise and accolade Indians who have made their mark on foreign shores, and thus inspire millions back home to hone their skills and chase their dreams. The awards were open to NRIs residing in Middle East & Asia Pacific. The award is the highest honour given to Indians living abroad. According to a list provided by the External Affairs Ministry, the awards were conferred in the fields of social, community and public service; business management; entrepreneurship; chartered accountancy; training and simulation; science; medical science; engineering; technology; architecture; academics; arts, and diplomacy.
